About JamieContact Jamie

Hello and Welcome

Akeso counselling is a small private practice dedicated to offering safe and confidential counselling in the heart of Cheshire.  My goal is to offer person-centred counselling here in the northwest, as a way to encourage personal empowerment and relief from a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, bereavement, breakdown of relationships and longer term mental health issues.  I am passionate about working with families through their infertility journey and have received specialist training to work with such issues such as gender difference, same sex family building, 3rd party donation, and fertility procedures such as IVF and IUI.

As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that you already have every resource necessary to face your depression, anxiety or emotional breakdown.  Counselling involves therapeutic dialogue between the client and counsellor, to explore the different conditions that have been place on your ability to access your own inner power and happiness.

I will use the person-centred approach to offer you an empathic and non-judgemental therapeutic experience, that is designed to make you feel accepted and safe to explore the furthest corners of your life.  Mental health is affected by so many more things that just depression and anxiety that everyone talks about, these are often just side effects of other issues, including:

·         Fears and phobias

·         Infertility

·         Family bereavement

·         Loss of pet

·         Family issues

·         Childhood problems

·         Bullying

·         Sexuality

·         Children issues

·         Parenting issues

·         Work-related stress

·         Sexual trauma

Here at Akeso counselling I do not focus on issues, I focus on people and truly believe that in the right environment people can gain greater understanding of their self and facilitate the change they want to see in their own lives.

Person-Centred Counselling

I offer an integrative approach counselling from a person-centred perspective.  This means that I may offer you different therapeutic interventions when appropriate but my work is deeply rooted in the person-centred philosophy.

I believe that each morning we awake with everything we need to get through any situation that may arise, but fully understand that life experience may interfere with our ability to access that inner strength.  Unfortunately, I cannot give you the answers to each of your problems but I can offer you a safe and confidential space where we can explore the different aspects of your life and find the best way to move forward for you.

Throughout the therapeutic process we will work with whatever you bring into the room that day and we will only work as deeply as you feel comfortable at the time.  I do not focus on issues, I focus on people and truly believe that in the right environment you can gain greater understanding of your self and facilitate the change you want to see in your own lives.

People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.

Your first session…

I very much look forward to meeting new clients and exploring ways to empower them to move forward in a way that promotes well being and personal development.  I wholeheartedly believe that everyone deserves a positive and nurturing counselling experience and I strive to embrace the uniqueness of each individual.   Therefore, I endeavour to provide a safe space for everyone, regardless of individual differences and I offer a completely open and nondiscriminatory service where everyone is welcome!

The first session is considered the ‘contracting’ session, we will introduce ourselves, discuss what you need to feel safe, establish comfortable therapeutic boundaries and I will introduce you to the therapeutic contract.

We will talk about how I work, what it might look like if you decide to take up counselling with me and we will thoroughly discuss all matters regarding confidentiality and safeguarding.  You will then get the chance to tell me about yourself  and what has led you to seek counselling.  We will discuss what you might expect from the sessions,  and finally we’ll spend the last few minutes talking about how we can move forward together should you chose to take up the counselling.

This process is designed to ensure we are setting up a safe and trusting relationship where you feel confident to explore anything that maybe troubling you and causing distress.
